THE QUIET PURSUIT OF THE EXTRAORDINARY

It has been said that being Tasmanian is ‘the quiet pursuit of the extraordinary’. The extraordinary is what Richard and Belinda Weston are committed to, who, alongside their partners Tom Barham and Jenna Howlett, formed ‘Tasmanian White Asparagus’; the first farm to grow and harvest the premium variety of European White Asparagus in Brighton, Tasmania.

Informed by European farming practices of the white asparagus variety, Tasmanian White Asparagus has been driven by their extensive R&D to pioneer the new industry in Australia. As a counter to the seasonal product in the northern hemisphere, the European white asparagus variety will be available in the Australian spring for September – October.

GROWN IN THE FERTILE SOILS OF BRIGHTON, 35KMS NORTH OF HOBART – A UNIQUE MICROCLIMATE PERFECT FOR WHITE ASPARAGUS

OVER 10 YEARS IN THE MAKING

The journey of the partners has been over a decade since their conversations with local chefs who were looking for access to the premium produce they were introduced to in their training in Europe. Since these early conversations, Weston Farm (Richard and Belinda’s farm) were already growing and selling a variety of fruit and vegetables and knew that with the right knowledge, they could pioneer and lead the development of the industry in the southern hemisphere.

Tasmanian White Asparagus has been championing sustainability in all of their practices, and are choosing a lighter harvest to protect the longevity of the asparagus crowns and to ensure a developed commercial crop will go from strength to strength.

Championing Tasmanian Produce

Tasmania has built the reputation to be the island state that produces the highest quality food grown in rich soils and clean air. Tasmanian White Asparagus strengthens that reputation and offers a premium vegetable to restaurants that celebrate and champion the provenance of Tasmanian and Australian produce.

This is just a quick message to say thank you for your beautiful white asparagus.

I am from Holland and have been living in Australia for 20 years, my Aussie husband and
3 kids never tasted white asparagus in their live before and I couldn’t wait to make it for them. I was so happy when I found you are growing them and have been waiting to buy them. My dad used to grow our own white asparagus in Holland and we had the “beds” just like you in our veggie garden.

We had them yesterday, the traditional way with new potatoes, egg, ham and melted butter and it was delicious, it brought me straight back to my childhood. Everyone loved it!

I will definitely ordering again and kept one pack to make soup. Thank you for making the effort of growing this delicious vegetable here in Australia.
